One of the most common causes of dirty water is the presence of Iron and Manganese in our water. These metals are naturally occuring in wells in our area. If you have oler corroded pipes in your home, this can also be the cause.

The most common cause of smelly water is anerobic bacteria that exist in some water that react with magnesium and aluminum sacrificial anodes that come with most water heaters that produce hydrogen sulfide gas, thus causing the classic rotten egg odor. The problem is common in well water.

Most likely your water heater needs to be flushed. CAUTION: Most manufacturers recommend hiring a professional to flush your water heater. If you plan on doing this yourself, read the owner's manual to keep from being hurt and or damaging the water heater.
